Mandarin essential oil
Similar to other fruits from the citrus family, mandarin has a long history of being used in medicine traditions, including traditional Chinese medicine, as well as in Indian and European home remedies. The health benefits of Mandarin Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, circulatory, nervous relaxant, sedative, and tonic substance.
Its cheering, uplifting and relaxing aroma is ideal for treating negative emotional conditions such as anxiety, nervous tension, stress, nervous exhaustion and overall fatigue, irritability and restlessness.
Peppermint essential oil
Peppermint oil is typically associated with soothing symptoms of asthma and allergies. In addition, peppermint vaporization has been reported to alleviate mucus associated with common colds and sinus infections. It also has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Peppermint oil brings immediate and significant improvement of upper respiratory ailment symptoms.
Lemon essential oil
Lemon oil has antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helps to boost immune system and fight respiratory conditions. Lemon oil contains a constituent called limonene that has potent anti-microbial, as well as anti-cancer and antioxidant properties. It also serves as one of the top essential oils for allergies.
Lemon oil is also known for its uplifting scent which can help with the fatigue which follows an allergic reaction.
Eucalyptus essential oil
It is well established that diet, sleep and an overall health-conscious lifestyle are primary factors for a healthy immune system. However, a 2008 study suggested that eucalyptus oil can be very effective in boosting the immune system by stimulating immune response on the cellular level. This study indicated that eucalyptus essential oil promotes phagocytic activity (stimulates white blood cells to ingest foreign particles), which helps in improving immunity. A 2010 study suggested that, "Eucalyptus oil and its major component, 1,8-cineole, have antimicrobial effects against many bacteria, viruses, and fungi." And that, "...surprisingly for an antimicrobial substance, there are also immune-stimulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, and spasmolytic effects."
The study recommended that vapor inhalation was an effective way to relieve congestion. Inhaling the eucalyptus oil helps to loosen phlegm and alleviate congestion associated with the common cold, flu or more severe conditions such as bronchitis.
Another study suggested that 1,8 cineole, the active ingredient in Eucalyptus oil, promotes anti-inflammatory activity when treating bronchial asthma.
Rosemary essential oil
Rosemary oil has been shown to provide relief from throat congestion, and in treating respiratory allergies, colds, sore throat, and the flu. Its antiseptic action also makes rosemary oil useful for respiratory infections. Because of its antispasmodic effect, it is also used in certain treatment programs for bronchial asthma.
A 2007 study that found reduced cortisol levels after simultaneous massage and inhalation of rosemary essential oil found that the free radical-scavenging activity in the subjects' bodies also significantly increased. Antioxidants are a valuable weapon to fight off infection and disease, so this benefit of rosemary oil is welcome news — regularly inhaling it can support immunity and help fight off diseases linked to free radicals.
